Log Cabin Patchworks celebrated its 30th Anniversary this year. Laura and Rita design patterns for publications, including McCalls Quilting and Quick Quilts, and American Patchwork and Quilting. They bought Log Cabin Patchworks after running it for several years since the death of its founder, Lib Stoinoff. .Lib opened Log Cabin Patchworks in the Spring of 1980. She opened the shop so quilters in the area would have a place to purchase quality quilting materials. She was instrumental in starting the local quilt guild, Misty Mountain Quilters Guild. Lib was in her late sixties when she opened the shop. Rita and Laura started working with Lib during the early 1990s. Lib was in her eighties and needed help lifting the fabric bolts and waiting on customers. She continued working daily, with the help of one of them. In 1995 Lib became very ill. Laura and Rita started to take over the daily operations of the shop. Lib passed away in 1998, and they continued to run the shop for her daughter. Lib's daughter had no interest in quilting, and she sold the shop to Rita and Laura in January of 2000. Log Cabin Patchworks was the first Georgia Quilt Shop to be chosen as one of the top 10 quilt shops for Better Homes and Gardens Quilt Sampler in 2002. In 2007 it was chosen as one of the top 20 quilt shops in North America. We are proud of our many firsts and will miss all our friends and customers. The shop is now closed as Rita has retired. Laura will continue to do quilt designing. The rental cabin we've added will also continue to be a place where you can sew or just relax in the north Georgia mountains. Please call 706-745-3989 for reservations or e-mail rdem1@windstream.net.. Don’t forget to keep Joanie’s (828-837-0057) and Linda’s (706-781-6102) phone number’s for machine quilting.
